This is a delayed birth certificate for Herbert. He died in 1918, and this was recorded in 1941. It was probably recorded for one of the children or Corie Jean. I will post his marriage and death certificates in the corresponding decade.

Census for Corie Jean’s parents. She would be 3 years old here, and she’s not listed. Both parents are listed as disabled. My theory is that she is living with an able relative. Still researching…

Sometime after this Census, the family moved to Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada where Herbert was a farmer. Richard Thomas was born in 1911. Richard is always listed as a Canadian-born American citizen. They were only there a couple years. Does anyone know why Herbert and Corie Jean went to Canada to farm?

November 7, 1918. Herbert passed away from Pneumonia. They were living in Page County, Nodaway Township, City of Clarinda Iowa. His youngest Gweneth was only 7 months old.

Corie lists that her parents are from Germany. She’s also listed (in the former census) as them being from Ireland, Virginia, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, and Nebraska. I’m wondering if she was passed around to different relatives’ houses? This actually happened quite a bit which makes it one of the hardest things to research.

Not sure why Corie is still listing herself as married? Chas H. Puryear is Giles.
They always get his name wrong.

Corie and Gweneth are living as lodgers in Chicago. Corie is working in a hospital as a trained nurse. Gweneth is still in school. Giles is living in Chicago and is married to Signe L. Swanson. I’m pretty sure both Chicago addresses have been torn down and made into condos or other buildings.
